Howell PAL/Southard School, Howell, NJ

Two Special Education teachers and an Art Therapist teamed together to create this unique recreation program and other products for individuals with Unique Needs.

Our Program

Our Saturday recreation program is for teens and adults with Unique Needs at

the Howell PAL.  The two hour class includes an art lesson, an exercise session, life skills, and socialization activities.

Autism Scarves,  hand cut and packaged by adults with Autism, is just one of the products for sale in our store.

Proceeds from sales benefit individuals with Unique Needs.

Everyone deserves to be healthy. Exercise helps keep people fit and reduces stress.  We created an easy-to-follow 30 minute DVD for people of all ages and abilities.

We offer a great class and we like to think we do it right.

But, don’t just take our word for it--our family's give us rave reviews!

  • Thomas has been attending Helping Hands Art since the inception of the program.  He looks forward to going to Helping Hands Art and really enjoys each session.  Helping Hands Art has helped Thomas discover his artistic talents, interact better with his peers and make new friends.  The instructors do a great job and the student volunteers are quite helpful.  Also, the addition of the exercise segment to the program was a great idea.  In summary, it’s a wonderful program run by knowledgeable and caring instructors.

  • My son graduated his world of high school; transitioning to continued education environment while Helping Hands Art & More is remaining consistent to part of our realm. We are  fortunate in being part of this very meaningful curriculum.

  • Glen has always been a joy and an inspiration for me. Such innocence in a very deep thinker. He certainly has his times, but most of the time he is smiling and has the purest of hearts. I give my daughter so much credit, as well as his educators that helped him be all he can be. He always spoke so highly of his teachers in his art class. I know how proud he felt when his family went to look at his art projects! I have the greatest respect for the work that you all do !

  • My name is Marvin Schulman my wife and I have visited your Helping Hands Art class twice in the past few months. What we saw was several autistic children busy creating something that has meaning to them and feeling proud of what they have accomplished. Our Grandson Robert Schear was beaming he was so happy to show us what he had done. We just wish to say thank you! Robert takes pride in what he does and truthfully so do we. You and the others in your group have done this for him and we cannot say thank you often enough. Please continue in you efforts as they do bear a very sweet fruit.
